MP Twitter leaders

As promised, here are some additional MP Twitter breakdowns and analysis based on Twitter activity up to this past Saturday.

This is the first in a series of posts. In this one I provide raw data and accompanying thoughts. Later today I will provide additional thoughts on what the numbers mean.

Twitter Accounts and Profiles

  • By having incomplete Twitter profiles (missing full names, incomplete bios/descriptions, no location, no photo…), a number of MPs make their Twitter accounts hard to find.
  • Some don’t use the Twitter profile feature which allows them to provide a link back to their own website. This segregates their Twitter community from all other Internet engagement efforts including the most important of all, their website (which should be at the centre of their digital presence — like a digital constituency office).
  • Four MPs have made their Twitter accounts private.

Most Followers

  • Followers alone don’t give an indication of how influential an MP is on Twitter.
  • Each party leader boasts the greatest number of Twitter followers, likely because of their status.

Top Tweeters

  • Denis Coderre wins this category hands down.
  • Tony Clement is on a tear. Today marks his 11th month on Twitter – that’s 234 Tweets a month (average).
  • Olivia Chow broadcasts all of her tweets to her Facebook Fan Page and was recently asked by a Facebook follower to keep her Twitter traffic separate.
